Universal Remote
A private Wi-Fi remote for your TV.
Control your Roku TV from your iPhone, with typing, voice search, private listening and wake-up, and no account or ads.
Everyday controls
D-pad, OK, back, home, volume and power for your Roku TV or player.
Channels and inputs
Open channels and switch HDMI inputs straight from your phone.
Type on your phone
Use your iPhone keyboard instead of pecking letters on the TV.
Voice search
Hold the microphone button and say what you are looking for.
Private listening
Send the TV's audio to your headphones through the phone. It keeps playing with the screen off.
Wake your TV
Turn on a TV that supports Wi-Fi wake-up without getting up.
Add a TV by address
Type in a TV's IP address when automatic discovery cannot see it, and rename TVs to something you will say.
Private by design
No account, no cloud, no ads and no analytics. The app talks directly to your TVs on your own network.
Connect your TV
- Connect your iPhone to the same Wi-Fi network as your TV, and turn the TV on.
- On a Roku TV, open Settings, then System, then Advanced system settings, then Control by mobile apps, and choose a permissive option. Menu names vary a little between Roku versions.
- Open Universal Remote and let it search for your TV. If it does not appear, add it by IP address. You can find the address under Settings, Network, About on the TV.
- When the iPhone asks to find devices on your local network, tap Allow. Without it the app cannot see your TV. You can change this later in the iPhone's Settings.
Good to know
- Your TV must be a networked smart TV on the same Wi-Fi as your phone. iPhones have no infrared blaster, so a TV that only accepts infrared cannot be controlled by any iPhone app.
- Roku is the supported platform today. Samsung (2016 and newer) and LG webOS support is experimental and may need adjustments on some models.
- Universal Remote is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Roku, Samsung or LG. All product names are trademarks of their owners.
